Redaway, Grundeis, Heron and Smith latest qualifiers
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Grand Canyon University's women's swim team added four more NCAA qualifers this weekend in time trials held in Goodyear at the Southwest Valley Family YMCA pool.
Freshman Julie Redaway (Braine L'Alleud, Belgium/Ste Gertrude Nivelles) hit the NCAA qualifying 'A' cut time, exactly, for the 100 Breaststroke at 1:05.39.
Frosh Karlee Grundeis (Bakersfield, Calif./East) qualified and brought two more teammates with her. With Grundeis time of 1:55.17 in her 200 Freestyle leg of the 800 Freestyle Relay, she was able to bring along freshmen Tori Heron (Glendale, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and Riley Smith (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) as members of the quartet. They will go along with senior Alexis Glessner (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain/N. Colorado), who had already qualified.
They will join sophomore Caitilin Hoffman (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert), who advanced to NCAAs, for the second straight season, at last week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet.
Though she just missed qualifying for NCAAs, Rhian Whitmarsh (Gilbert, Ariz./Higley) set a new GCU record in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.42 Saturday.
The NCAA Championships are March 10-13 in Canton, Ohio.
