ARVADA, Colo. -- GCU senior
Alexis Glessner (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain/N. Colorado) won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships 500 Freestyle Thursday at Meyers Pool and the Antelopes are in third place after the first day of the three-day competition.
Glessner won in 5:08.94 and freshmen
Tori Heron (Glendale, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and
Riley Smith (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
Freshman
Taylor Walker (Anchorage, AK, East) led an impressive performance in the 50 Freestyle, tying a school-record with a second-place time of 24.57. Frosh
Karlee Grundeis (Bakersfield, Calif./East) and sophomore
Brooke Bellah (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) and junior
Rhian Whitmarsh (Gilbert, Ariz./Higley) placed fourth, sixth and ninth, respectively.
GCU's second-place 400 Medley Relay team won in a school-record time of 3:57.38.
The fourth-place 200 Freestyle Relay team of Grundeis, Whitmarsh, Walker and Bellah were fourth, but set a school record with a time of 1:39.75
Freshman
Julie Redaway (Braine L'Alleud, Belgium/Ste Gertrude Nivelles) was the top finisher in the 200 IM, placing seventh.
The 12th-ranked Antelopes scored 205.5 points, trailing first-place Incarnate Word (245) and second-place Minnesota State-Moorhead (217.5).
