Grand Canyon University's women's swim team is ranked No. 21 by CollegeSwimming.com. The men's team is No. 22.
It is the first time in the program's three-year history either team has been ranked.
The women are one of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams to be among the Top 25. Minnesota State-Moorhead is No. 10, Incarnate Word is ranked No. 14 and Mesa State is ranked No. 19.
GCU will host Mesa State Jan. 2.
"For both programs, it's a step," said second-year coach Steve Schaffer. "It's year three and we're kind of where we want to be and we want to keep moving forward."
In individual events, GCU has swimmers or relay teams ranked 11 times in the nation's Top 25. Three swimmers, senior Alexis Glessner (pictured, Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain/N. Colorado), freshman Tori Heron (Glendale, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and freshman Riley Smith (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) are among the leaders in the 1650 Freestyle, led by Glessner (9th - 18:19.76), followed by Heron (11th - 18:26.71) and Smith (20th - 18:45.80).
Glessner is also ranked in the 500 freestyle (8th - 5:13.25) and 200 Freestyle (16th - 1:57.08). Sophomore Caiti Hoffman (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) is ranked 21st in the 200 Backstroke (2:13.09) and freshman Julie Redaway (Braine L'Alleud, Belgium/Ste Gertrude Nivelles) is No. 24 in the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.75) and No. 25 in the 200 Breaststroke (2:30.51).
Three relay teams are ranked including the 800 Freestyle (5th - 7:58.60), 200 Freestyle (23rd - 1:42.38) and 400 Medley Relay (23rd - 4:12.01).
