LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Grand Canyon University men's swimming team finished 13th at the UC Irvine/Nike Cup meet featuring many powerful NCAA Division I schools on the West Coast.
The Antelopes had 146 points in the 17-team invitational. Stanford won the meet with with 1,965 points. GCU women's team finished 19th out of 22 teams with 56 points. UCLA won with 1,498.5 points.
GCU's Stephen D'Arrigo qualified for nationals in the 100 backstroke (52.16). He finished 13th in the event after clocking a 52.94 in the finals.
D'Arrigo, Charles Woodruff, Ryan Torii and Andy Davies finished 13th in the 400 medley relay in 3:53.08. The Antelopes 200 medley relay unit of the same cast placed 14th in 1:46.27. They also were 14th in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:52.77 and 14th in the 200 relay in 1:32.11.
Grand Canyon women's 400 medley relay team of Jessica Coudright (pictured), Christea Zeyssig, Tara Macinnes and Kanoe Lyons finished 16th. The same quartet placed 19th in the 800 freestyle relay. The Antelopes 200 medley relay unit of Coudright, Kathrynn Briggs, Jessica Brooke and Lyons took 20th.
Coudright, Zeyssig, Macinnes and Brooke were 19th in the 400 freestyle relay.
Grand Canyon will swim against New Mexico State and University of Texas Permian Basin in Las Cruces, N.M. at 2 p.m. Dec. 1.
