Tim O’Neil is in his 1st season as GCU’s assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach in 2023-24.
Before joining the Lopes staff, O’Neil has coached as the associate head coach at Brophy Prep (2001-2013, 2018-2023) and head coach at Mountain Pointe High School (2013-2018). Top athletes include Ray Polk, Devon Allen, Bobby Grant, and Isiah Oliver as alumnus. O’Neil is also the founder and coach of the Phoenix Track Club (2017/18-Present) where he has coached Olympians Devon Allen (USA), David King (Great Britain), and Johnathan Cabral (Canada).
O’Neil also coached 2022 World Indoor bronze medalist Jarret Eaton in the 60m hurdles, and 2023 World Outdoor 4th place finisher Freddie Crittenden in the 110m hurdles.
In the last five years, O’Neil has had multiple top-20 world ranked athletes. In addition he has had six athletes qualify for the Olympic games and World Outdoor/Indoor Championships and three appearances in the Diamond League Finals (two hurdlers in 2019, one in 2023). Phoenix track club has 12 national champions.
