GCU women's tennis went 2-0 on the weekend in a home stand against Mountain West opponents. The Lopes were able to take down the San José State Spartans and the Fresno State Bulldogs.
GCU defeats Spartans 5-0
The Lopes started off doubles play with a comeback win on Court 2 and dominance on Court 1.

Bella Crossman took over on Court 1 winning 6-2 to get the match started for the Lopes
With this win it brings the duo to 6-4 on the season as a doubles pair and 4-1 on Court 1.
Over on Court 2 GCU grinded out a comeback win to secure the doubles point. After being down 4-1 at one point, freshman
Hams Metwally and junior
Gala Arangio took down the Spartans 6-4.
Over in singles play Metwally got the scoring started for the Lopes. After winning the first set 6-3, she then swept the second set 6-0.
On Court 4 Deaifi defeated Tara Mihaljevic 6-4, 6-2 before freshman Amalia Suciu clinched the match for the Lopes 7-5, 6-2.
Finishing at almost exactly the same time as Suciu, Arangio took down Emma Fantousis in a battle, winning 6-4 in both sets.
The rest of the matches were abandoned.
GCU defeats Bulldogs 4-1
GCU started their match against Fresno State with a quick showing in doubles play losing only one game total. The duo of Deaifi and Crossman swept the Bulldogs duo 6-0 while Arangio and Metwally won 6-1 on Court 2.
The doubles point was won by the Lopes in just under 20 minutes.
In singles Metwally showed why she has the most wins on this GCU squad, defeating Paulina Montiel 6-2, 6-3. With this win it brings her win streak to seven with her last loss against a ranked opponent.
Suciu won the first set 6-2 on Court 5 before an unreal comeback in the second set. After being down 4-0 in the second set she came back to win the match 6-4.
In a match that was coming close with Duckett falling on Court 6, the veteran Deaifi was able to will the Lopes to victory.
Playing on Court 4, Deaifi battled, winning 7-5 in the first set before breaking through 6-3 in the second, clinching the match for GCU.
"This team has so much trust in each other, I know that whoever is playing will give their all no matter the score" said Deaifi when asked about how this team has stuck together through any adversity.
Head Coach Dane Vorster commented on the successful weekend, "It was a great open to conference play to start with two solid wins at home, we are very proud of this team's commitment and discipline everyday and are excited to see how far we go."
The Lopes go on another road trip this week as they take on Mountain West foes Boise State and Utah State, before heading home
