The Grand Canyon women's tennis team went on its first conference trip this weekend and split dual matches with a loss at Boise State and a win at Utah State.

The Lopes were swept by defending Mountain West champion Boise State on Friday before they rallied to come up with a 4-1 victory Sunday in Logan, Utah.
Boise State defeats GCU 4-0
The first stop of the road trip was Boise, Idaho, for the Lopes on Friday to take on the Broncos. Despite a hard-fought match, including a tiebreaker in doubles play, the Lopes ultimately suffered their first conference loss.

On Court 3 in doubles play, the GCU freshman duo of
Hams Metwally and Amalia Suciu picked up a 6-4Â win. Boise State still took the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2.

Singles play started with Boise State's Masa Viriant taking the first point by defeating Metwally 6-1, 6-2.

The Broncos clinched the match with a pair of wins on Courts 1 and 4 over GCU sophomores
Bella Crossman and
Gala Arangio.
GCU defeats Utah State 4-1
 The Lopes were able to turn it around Sunday evening with a 4-1 win against the Aggies.

Doubles play started with GCU taking Court 1, where Arangio and sophomore
Karina Hofbauer scored a 6-3 victory.

With the Lopes needing one more win to clinch the doubles point, sophomore
Peyton Duckett and Suciu responded. After a close match, the duo won 7-6 (8-6 in the tiebreaker).
In singles play, GCU had a dominant showing. On Court 6, Duckett got the scoring started for the Lopes taking out Olivia Halvorsen. The Aggies then battled back with Hofbauer dropping a 6-1, 6-3 match to Sabrina Pintea.

With the dual match at 2-1, GCU was looking for the next point to separate itself. Arangio answered on Court 3, as she was able to pick up a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

After losing her first set 6-3, Crossman came back with 6-2 and 6-4 wins to clinch the dual match and give Crossman six wins this season.

The Lopes return home this week to take on Air Force on Friday and a strong New Mexico team on Sunday.
