United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club announced their three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, considered the Heisman Trophy of collegiate soccer and the sport's most prestigious award.
Grand Canyon freshman
Junior Diouf is on that list.
With highlight reel goals, impeccable footwork on the ball, and off-ball attention that drew upwards to quadruple teams, Diou used that skillset to put the nation on notice with 18 goals, 42 points, 36 shots on goal and seven game-winning goals, one of the best single-season performances for a Lope ever.
The Thies, Senegal, native, broke the program's Division-I era single season record for goals, points, shots (72), shots on goal, and game winners. And in just one season, the forward's point total tied for ninth of any player in program history in a season since the program began in 1985.
Diouf joins North Carolina State forward Donavan Phillip and Washington forward Richie Aman as the finalists. The women's finalists, announced Dec. 10, are Stanford forward Jasmine Aikey, Florida State forward Jordynn Dudley and Notre Dame forward Izzy Engle. The winners will be announced during a Jan 9 banquet at St. Louis' historic Missouri Athletic Club.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967.Â
