3 THINGS TO KNOW
- WINNING STREAK ENDS: The Lopes had won 11 consecutive regular-season matches dating back to last season, before their two losses in Berkeley for the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
- NEW LOOK LOPES: Five of the seven players on the GCU roster are in their first season at Grand Canyon. Four of those five are freshman and playing in their first collegiate seasons in America. All five have been in the lineup in the first three matches of the season.
- WAC IN 2025: With just six WAC teams in women's tennis this season, no regular-season championship will be awarded. There will still be a tournament at the end of the season to award the WAC Tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. GCU has five WAC teams on its schedule, but those duals will not be recognized as conference matches.
SCOUTING CAL STATE FULLERTON
Cal State Fullerton is 0-1 on the season after losing 0-7 at Northern Arizona on Friday morning. The Titans did not win a single court in doubles or singles. Grand Canyon, however, has never beaten Fullerton, 0-4 all-time. The last meeting was in 2019, when the Titans won 6-1.WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lopes head to Texas for matches on Saturday (2/8) and Sunday (2/9) against old WAC foe Stephen F. Austin and current WAC-opponent UT Arlington. The UTA matchup will not count towards a conference record.
