After serving as Grand Canyon men's golf assistant coach for the past three seasons,
Mike Schaloum has been elevated to associate head coach.

Schaloum and GCU head coach
Mark Mueller have seen profound success since the 2021-22 season, winning two WAC titles and competing in two NCAA regional tournaments. The Lopes' 2022-23 WAC title was the program's first, doing so in record-breaking style in Boulder City, Nevada. The Lopes defended their title in April in Payson, Arizona, for their third team victory.
"Coach Schaloum has been a huge part of our success the last three seasons," Mueller said. "Winning a pair of conference titles together has been great, and the fact that he played here as well makes it better. I am really looking forward to starting the new season with our coaches and players."
Schaloum has coached eight All-WAC recipients since becoming an assistant coach for 2021-22. Four of those players were first-team honorees, including
Nicky Kling earning WAC Golfer of the Year this spring to be the second Lope to earn the honor since GCU joined the conference in 2013.
"This is a meaningful recognition of the work we've done both from a recruiting standpoint as well as player development," Schaloum said. "It's been a historic few years here with lots of winning, capped off by back-to-back WAC championships and our best ranking by far. That's only been made possible by having an extremely hard-working and motivated group of guys. Any recognition to a coach is only ever made possible by great players. I'm grateful to be along for their ride."
Schaloum has been an integral piece to the team during tournaments, helping guide
Tommaso Zorzetto and
Gavin O'Neill to top seasons. Zorzetto was named to the All-WAC first team and returns for his final season in 2024-25, when he will head into the season as the conference's top golfer to watch. O'Neill concluded his freshman season as one of the best in his class in the conference.
"We're just getting started, too," Schaloum said. "We have some elite players returning and incoming into this next season, which is a huge testament to the university. The best players in the world want to be in Phoenix and GCU has everything they need to improve."
