The Grand Canyon men's soccer team added United Soccer Coaches High School All- American and 2023-24 Massachusetts United Soccer Coaches Player of the Year Serigne Babacar Diallo to the squad for the fall season.
The 6-foot defender aims to slide right into the rotation on the back line, aiding returning goalkeeper
Leon Schmidt on defense. Diallo's high school squad went undefeated during the regular season with eight straight shutouts and allowed only one goal in three matches during the state playoffs.
Diallo attended Northfield Mount Hermon High School in Mount Hermon, Massachusetts, and was named an All-American via United Soccer Coaches after leading his team to the NEPSAC Class A Tournament semifinal last fall. Known for being a great one-on-one defender with strength in the air on headers, Diallo was a cornerstone for Northfield Mount Hermon's success.
Diallo's accolades also include all-state first team, United Soccer Coaches All-New England Region Team and team MVP honors. He was also given the sportsmanship award for soccer and track and field.
Diallo is the third signee this spring, joining winger Alan Hermitte and forward Jony Muñoz.
