Separately, duo earns 1st team for singles; as team, duo earns doubles

Grand Canyon men's tennis graduate Gerhard Sullwald and sophomore David Wekesa earned first-team singles honors and second-team doubles honors in All-WAC voting announced on Wednesday.

Sullwald spent one season with the Lopes after transferring from North Dakota. He most frequently appeared on the top court where he went 5-6 overall and 2-1 in WAC play.

Wekesa boasted GCU's best singles record as 12-4 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Wekesa went 10-2 on Court 3 and 2-2 on Court 2.

Together, Sullwald and Wekesa teamed up to form the Lopes' top doubles team. They went 10-7 on the season on Court 1.

The Lopes take the No. 2 seed into the WAC Tournament. GCU opens tournament play against Abilene Christian on Friday at 7 a.m. (Phoenix time) in Harlingen, Texas, in a match that is streamed on ESPN+.
