AUSTIN, Texas – The Grand Canyon track and field team concluded the weekend against some of the nation's most elite with great results.
The Lopes competed in both the Texas Relays in Austin and at Texas State in San Marcos.
On the first day of competition for GCU,
Jack Hodge crushed the men's pole vault school record with a mark 5.50 meters. Hodges vault is now third in the NCAA and earned him runner up at the meet.
Though he was competing unattached,
Oscar Rodriguez threw a discus mark that would have shattered the school record. The senior landed a 59.88 meter mark in his home state of Texas.
On the sprints side, senior
Erin Brown and junior
JoJo Harding rode some favorable winds at Texas Relays to some fast times in the 100-meter dash. Brown, a Texas native went 10.24 seconds while Harding, a Stephen F. Austin transfer, went 10.33.
In the women's side of the event, graduate student and former Texas Tech athlete
Joanna Archer put on a show with a meet record in the 800 clocking a time of 2 minutes 6.67 seconds. The mark resulted in a win and claims second in the WAC currently.
Israel Oloyede won the Texas State hammer throw on the final day of competition with a mark of 69.88 meters.
"Most of the team will take a much needed break this upcoming weekend and only the multi-eventers will compete at the Jim Click Multi," Lopes head coach
Tom Flood said.
