The Grand Canyon men's volleyball team heads to Concordia for their first MPSF matchup since Mar. 3 when the Lopes swept Stanford at home.
Both matches will be streamed live on Team1 Sports.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- BACK ON TRACK: Last week the Lopes competed at home against NJIT on Friday and Saturday. The Lopes won both matches 3-1 thanks to the offense of Jackson Hickman and defensive play from Cameron Thorne. The team had a season high in blocks for four-set matches with 13 total on Saturday. Â
- THORNE EARNS 2nd STRAIGHT HONOR:Â After his strong performance in Hawaii, sophomore middle blocker Thorne earned his second straight MPSF Defensive Player of the Week honor thanks to his play against NJIT. The GCU sophomore showed his skill by finishing the weekend with 10 blocks and an attack percentage of .667 in two home match victories. Thorne averaged a team-high 1.25 blocks per set in eight sets played. Thorne's seven blocks Saturday against NJIT was one short of matching his career high.
- HISTORY: Dating back to 2021, the Lopes hold a 5-2 record against Concordia. In the last matchup, outside hitters Camden Gianni and Jackson Hickman each collected 11 kills. Gianni also had four aces, with seven as a team.
SCOUTING
Concordia enters this weekend on a five-game losing streak. The Golden Eagles last match at home came against Harvard in a 3-2 loss on Mar 13. Ties Cornelissen leads the team in kills per set with an average of 3.39 which has led to a team high 194.5 points during the 2023-2024 season.
