LOS ANGELES – The Grand Canyon men's volleyball team fell in a four-set road match at No. 3 USC on Saturday night.
GCU (14-8, 3-5 MPSF) dropped the first two sets before taking the third set. However, USC (18-2, 6-0 MPSF) closed out the match in the fourth to secure the victory with set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, and 25-20.
Graduate student opposite
Jarrett Anderson led the Lopes' offense with 15 kills on a .382 hitting clip.
GCU freshman middle blocker
Trevell Jordan had seven kills on a .500 clip.
The opening set saw early back-and-forth action before the Trojans went on a 4-0 run to lead 19-14 and eventually win 25-19.
The second set saw the Lopes jump out to a 3-0 run and held the lead until the Trojans tied the score at 11-11 and used a 4-0 run to win 25-18 off of a Dillon Klein kill.
The GCU squad found hope in the third set, with a 20-15 lead late in the third set behind senior outside hitter
Karter Rogers' offense.
Rogers tallied six kills with all coming from the third frame.
GCU finished the set on a 3-1 run with a Rogers kill.
In the match, Lopes junior setter
Jaxon Herr earned a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs.

Cole Ottmar landed 12 kills following his 14-kill Friday night performance.Â
The Lopes took the third set win and continued the success in the fourth set until the Trojans broke a 16-16 tie. USC closed the fourth set 25-20 to win the match.
GCU limited USC to hitting .279 but could not produce enough of its own hits.
The Lopes will look to bounce back Friday and Saturday in Phoenix when they host UCLA.
