Grand Canyon men's soccer head coach
George Kiefer announced the addition of
Daniel De Oliveira as especial tactical coach to his staff.
De Oliveira enters GCU with 20-plus years of coaching experience and coaching education to the program. De Oliveira's international background includes having served as a head coach for multiple clubs in the Venezuelan Professional League, including Yaracuyanos FC, Metropolitanos FC, Estudiantes de Caracas FC, and also head coach responsibilities with the Venezuelan U15 and U17 national teams from 2007 to 2010.
Notable players De Oliveira has scouted and coached over the years include former Atlanta United and Miami FC top scorer Josef Martinez, former Ligue one and La Liga Fernando Aristeguieta, former Corinthians Romulo Otero, former Malaga Alexander Gonzalez and Juanpi Anor, Phoenix Rising's Edgardo Rito and Belgian Bruge FC Daniel Perez.
De Oliveira also has head coaching experience with some Arizona clubs, serving as associate head coach for Valley United in 2021 before being elevated to interim head coach in 2022. He most recently was on the Phoenix Rising FC Academy staff in 2023 and 2024.
De Oliveira played professionally for 10 seasons in the United States, Spain, Brazil, Central America and Venezuela with teams such as Deportivo Italia, Carabobo FC and Trujillanos FC, Luis Angel Firpo and Castellon, Almazora. Prior to that, De Oliveira also played collegiately at Long Island, earning a
Soccer America recognition as Freshmen of the Year in 1987 and received four straight All-New York and Northeast Conference All-Star nods. He was selected as Rookie of the Year by the Northeast Conference the same year.
As a midfielder with Carabobo, he scored a career-high eight goals in 12 appearances from 1996-97 before moving later that season to Trujillanos FC, where he registered seven goals in 15 matches. De Oliveira was a fixture with the Venezuelan National Team, scoring three times and earning 16 appearances while playing for both the U23 and senior national team. He also was a part of the 1998 World Cup-qualifying squad and earned fourth place with the Venezuelan Beach National Soccer Team in 2006.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, his father was a former Brazilian professional player and coach who played with Pele. De Oliveira graduated in Sports Science from Long Island in 1991 and earned his master's degree in Sports Management at Universidad Metropolitana in 2012. He also holds the PRO coaching license from CONMEBOL, the USSF A license and a FIFA Future III coaching instructor license. He speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as basic Italian and French.
