For the second consecutive week, Grand Canyon received two WAC player of the week awards with sophomore forward
Bright Nutornutsi winning Offensive Player of the Week and junior
Leon Schmidt being named Goaltender of the Week.
The award is the third straight for Schmidt, whose goalkeeping numbers rank among the best in the nation. Schmidt totaled 10 saves and two shutouts last week as the Lopes shut out UC Santa Barbara (3-0) and No. 22 San Diego (1-0). Schmidt is second in the country in saves (40), 11th in saves per game (5.7) and 11th in shutouts (three).
Nutornutsi registered a brace against the Gauchos and had an assist against the Toreros to total five points for the week. He has recorded a point in each of his past three games and is the WAC leader in goals (five) and second in points (11). The accolade is his first this season.
GCU ends its four-game homestand at 7 p.m. Wednesday vs. Houston Christian.
