Recent graduate and two-time All-WAC second-team recipient
Matthew Braley helped Grand Canyon win its first WAC Championship in April and now takes his talent to the Korn Ferry Tour after qualifying for the Compliance Solutions Championship at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.
Â
The four-day tournament begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. Braley tees off Thursday at 7:09 a.m. (Phoenix time) on hole No. 10. The Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club is the home course of the Oklahoma golf teams.
Â
"I am really happy for Matt and excited to watch him play this weekend," GCU head coach
Mark Mueller said. "He is 11 under through two Monday qualifiers with no bogies and went 7 under last Monday to qualify for this tournament. It's awesome to have a Lope compete in a Korn Ferry event and for him to play in his home state of Oklahoma."
Â
The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, native earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive season this past spring as he was a critical piece to the Lopes' first WAC Championship title. Braley registered six top-20 finishes, including four in the top 10. At the WAC Championship in Boulder City, Nevada, Braley tied for 11th with a 2-under final round that pushed the Lopes to a five-stroke victory.
Â
In 12 tournaments this past collegiate season, Braley averaged a 72.56 score with a 72.17 final-round average. Known for his strength off the tee box, Braley averaged a 4.64 scoring average on par-5 holes with 114 birdies.
