Grand Canyon will participate in the MLB Desert Invitational to open its season, adding even more intrigue to a 2023 schedule
that was announced earlier this week.
The Lopes' four-game weekend includes two nationally televised games on MLB Network, headlined by a visit from No. 2 Tennessee to Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark on Saturday, Feb. 18.
"We're excited for the opportunity to showcase the university, the Havocs, our campus, our ballpark and our program to a national television audience," Lopes head coach
Gregg Wallis said. "We have tremendous respect for Tennessee's program and can't wait to welcome them to GCU Ballpark for an exciting night of baseball. That's the highlight of what should be an exciting way to open the season with four more quality opponents."

In addition to the two games at GCU Ballpark, the Lopes will play in a pair of spring training facilities. On Friday, Feb. 17, GCU opens the season at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, home to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Lopes play at Sloan Park in Mesa, home to the Chicago Cubs.
GCU's challenging schedule gets tougher with the addition of SEC and Big Ten opposition and a seventh NCAA tournament team. The Volunteers were the No. 1 national seed entering last year's NCAA tournament.
