GCU to host 4 exhibition games, participate in Mexican Baseball Fiesta in 1st fall under Bieser
Grand Canyon baseball will play five exhibition dates this fall as the Lopes begin preparations for their first spring under head coach Steve Bieser.
GCU opens its fall slate Sept. 26 against the Yaquis de Obregón as part of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta at American Family Fields of Phoenix, the spring training home of the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Tickets are available now on MLB.com.
The Lopes then return to Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark for four exhibitions against Arizona junior college programs. GCU hosts Central Arizona on Oct. 9 at 3 p.m., Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m., South Mountain Community College on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. and Cochise College on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.
All four exhibitions at GCU Ballpark are free and open to the public.
The expanded fall schedule comes as college baseball programs have additional opportunities for outside competition. Beginning this fall, NCAA rules allow programs to play as many as four exhibitions during the 45-day fall practice window, doubling the previous limit of two. For the Lopes, the fall exhibitions will provide additional opportunities to evaluate and develop a new-look roster ahead of Bieser's first season at GCU.
