Both Grand Canyon tennis teams will head to California for a weekend road trip.
Â
The men and women will play at UC Irvine on Friday with the women playing at 11 a.m. and the men following at 2:30 p.m. The women will then travel to UC Riverside on Saturday for a noon start.
Â
The men are coming off last weekend's trip, where they lost 6-1 to BYU and 4-0 to Idaho State. Against the Cougars, GCU sophomore
Loic Van Zeggelaar picked up a 6-1, 6-4 singles win at the No. 5 position while three singles matches were left unfinished against the Bengals.
Â
The women last competed at the Cal State Fullerton Spring Invitational, a non-dual match event, in late January. The Lopes picked up six wins in singles and four wins in doubles against players from Cal State Fullerton, San Jose State and UC Irvine.
Â
Individually at the event, Lopes sophomore
Santa Strombacha was named WAC Singles Player of the Week while fifth-year senior
Autum Prudhomme and graduate Fabienne Schimdt were named WAC Doubles Players of the Week. Strombacha won all three of her singles matches, starting with a three-set win over Fullerton's Juliette Daries before winning her final two matches in straight sets.
Â
In doubles, Prudhomme and Schmidt bounced back after a 6-3 loss to win their final two matches of the weekend, 6-1 and 6-2.
