Grand Canyon senior forward
Shaun Joash added an award to his prolific collegiate resume as he was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region second team.
A native of Hampton Hill, England, Joash finished the 2022 campaign as one of the top goal scorers in the country. He ranked seventh in the nation in goals (12), seventh in points (30), fourth in points per game (1.88) and fifth in goals per game (0.75). All those statistics finished best in the WAC, leading him to earning WAC Offensive Player of the Year a year after GCU's
Esai Easley won WAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Known as a precise finisher inside the box for the GCU attack, Joash finished second in the country in shot accuracy (.647). In nonconference action, he tallied three goals and three assists before really turning it on in WAC play, totaling eight goals and three assists against conference opponents in the regular season that included nine goals in his final six regular-season games.
Joash, who also earned the All-Far West Region award as a junior, leaves GCU as one of the top goal scorers to play for the Lopes in two seasons. He recorded 18 goals, nine assists, 45 points and five game-winning goals. His goal count and point total each rank second in the GCU Division I era.
The striker was invited to the annual MLS College Showcase, which coincides with the College Cup each year. The MLS College Showcase will feature 44 top college players, ranging from freshmen to graduate students, in a series of training sessions, testing, interviews and match play on Dec. 9-12 in Cary, North Carolina.
For his career, Joash was tabbed All-WAC first team twice, WAC Offensive Player of the Year (2022), Preseason WAC Offensive Player of the Year (2022) and United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region second team twice. The Far West honorees cover programs in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
