The Grand Canyon men's soccer team earned its first weekly awards this season with senior defender
Esai Easley being named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week and being selected to the College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer national teams of the week.
Easley, earning the second weekly WAC award of his career, led the Lopes' defense to back-to-back shutout wins over No. 22 Oregon State on the road and Saint Mary's at home.
Against No. 22 Oregon State, Easley logged all 90 minutes and played a crucial role in shutting down the Beaver offense.
In the second consecutive shutout for the Lopes, Easley's goal in the 16th minute was the difference in the 1-0 victory against Saint Mary's. His first goal since his freshman season was the game-winning goal against the Gaels, who have the nation's best record over the three previous seasons.
The WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year has started all five matches and played all 90 minutes in each for the Lopes.
The Lopes are back on the road this week to play at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, on Thursday night.
