The Grand Canyon men's soccer team announced its fall season schedule after a historic spring run that ended with a perfect regular-season record, a WAC regular-season championship and the Lopes' second NCAA tournament appearance.
GCU head coach
Leonard Griffin will open his first Lopes season on Aug. 26 against Illinois-Chicago at GCU Stadium, where the WAC Tournament will be held in November.

"I can't wait for that first whistle to blow on Aug. 26," Griffin said. "We have a very challenging fall schedule where we play three opponents who are ranked in the top 25 in Washington, Oregon State and Saint Mary's."
The Lopes, returning All-America third-teamer
Justin Rasmussen, WAC Freshman of the Year
Maximilian Moeller and fellow All-WAC honorees
Ariel Aguas and
Esai Easley, follow the season opener with another home game against CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 29.
GCU will be tested in its first road trip when its plays Sept. 3 at Washington, which defeated the Lopes in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season. The Huskies finished last season ranked No. 6 nationally in the coaches' poll and No. 10 in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index.
On Sept. 6, the Lopes will head to Corvallis, Oregon, to take on No. 19 Oregon State. GCU won 1-0 in its last matchup with the Beavers in 2019. The Lopes follow that trip with another top opponent, No. 23 Saint Mary's, which will be their final nonconference home game.
GCU will head back on the road to face Cal Poly on Sept. 16 before the conference slate starts with a Sept. 25 home game against Seattle U.
"I'm confident that our nonconference schedule will prepare us to defend last season's conference title," Griffin said.
With last season's schedule condensed because of COVID-19, the Lopes were not able to play conference opponents Chicago State, UT Rio Grande Valley and Seattle U during the regular season. They will play all 11 WAC opponents this season.
The conference slate includes an Oct. 10 home game against UT Rio Grande Valley, the WAC runner-up in the spring. The last meeting between the Lopes and Vaqueros was in 2019, ending in a double-overtime, 0-0 tie.
For the regular-season finale, GCU is traveling to Colorado for a WAC Tournament championship rematch with Air Force. The Lopes went 1-1 against Air Force last season, winning 1-0 during the regular season and falling 3-0 in the tournament title match.
The WAC Tournament will be held Nov. 10-14 at GCU Stadium.
"What makes this season even more special is the fact that we get to host the WAC Tournament this year," Griffin said. "There isn't a better place in the country to have this event and to be able to play right in front of the Havocs and the rest of Lope Nation is a truly a blessing."
