The Grand Canyon women's tennis team will face travel to BYU for a quick one match roadtrip on Friday. It will be the second straight meeting between the Lopes and Cougars with BYU winning a close 4-3 match at the GCU Tennis Facility last season.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
SINGLES LEADER: Senior Emilia Occhipinti became the career singles leader last weekend against Drake with a 4-1 win by retirement at No. 2 singles. That win was her 44th singles win at GCU which moved her into the top spot for most singles win in a career in the GCU D-I era.
PERFECT WEEKEND: Occhipinti along with freshman Taylor Andersen and junior Jana Weiss all went 2-0 last weekend. Andersen picked up her first two singles wins of her collegiate career at the No. 6 position against Omaha and Drake while Weiss was won both her matches at No. 3.
SCHEDULE CHANGES: After facing New Mexico at home on Monday the next roadtrip to Santa Clara and San Jose State on March 12 and 13 have been canceled. The scheduled match after GCU faces the Lobos will be on March 16 at home against Colorado State.
SCOUTING
BYU has amassed a 7-5 record so far this season most recently losing to Pac-12 rival Utah at home. The Cougars already own a 3-0 record against the WAC this season, winning two matches against Dixie State at home and a neutral match against Seattle U in Oregon.
Emilee Astle leads the team with a 8-3 singles record at positions 2-4 while Leah Heimuli/Kara Lin have been the most sucessful doubles team with a 5-1 record between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
