The Grand Canyon men's soccer team hosts California Baptist in a battle for the top spot in the WAC on Friday night. The Lopes are first in the WAC with an undefeated record and earned their first national ranking of the season at No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week.
The match will be streamed live
GCUTVÂ and the
WAC Digital Network.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- JUST THE BEGINNING: GCU stayed undefeated last week with a win over Incarnate Word. The Lopes' 4-0 record to start the season is the program's best since 1989. If GCU gets the win on Friday, it will mark the first time in program history that it has started 5-0.
- MAKING AN ENTRANCE: Two Lopes players scored career-first goals in the season opener vs. Houston Baptist. Moeller scored GCU's first goal of the season while senior forward Rey Gaytan made the winner.
- END OF AN ERA: GCU head coach Schellas Hyndman announced that he will be retiring at the conclusion of this season. Hyndman is the second-winningest active coach in Division I men's soccer with a 507-169-58 record. He was inducted into the United Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame in the offseason in recognition of his 37-season coaching career.
