Grand Canyon men's soccer added another freshman to the 2020 roster on Friday with the signing of Belton, Texas, midfielder Edgar Soto.
"Edgar is another player from Texas that we cannot wait to see in GCU uniform this fall," GCU head coach
Schellas Hyndman said. "He is a creative and dynamic attacking midfielder who possesses a variety of skills to unlock opponents' defenses. In addition to his playmaking and finishing ability, Edgar is capable of successfully creating numerical superiority by isolating and getting past defenders in one-on-one situations. We are excited to have Edgar as another explosive player added to an arsenal of attacking options we will have this season."
Soto played four seasons as a varsity starter for Belton High School, which is north of Austin. He was named to the all-district first team three times and was an attacking MVP for all four years with the Tigers. He helped lead the team to a 17-0-2 record this year and a three-time selection to the Super Centex first team. Soto also excelled in the classroom, earning a spot on the academic all-district team.
"Attending GCU was a dream of mine," Soto said. "After visiting the campus, I fell in love with the buildings, the weather and especially the men's soccer program. I am looking forward to making tons of new friends and competing against great players at one of the best soccer stadiums in the nation."
He is the second Texas prep product to join this fall's Lopes roster after GCU also
signed Houston-area midfielder Roger Sanguinetti.
