Esai Easley was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after the Lopes' third shutout of the season on Thursday night.
The defender has started all four games for GCU this season, recording 307 minutes. Easley has been a standout on the back line, leading the Lopes in their stellar defense. GCU has allowed only one goal, which came on a penalty kick, in four games for a 0.25 team goals against average. The mark leads the WAC and is tied for sixth in the NCAA.
The Kailua, Hawaii, native has assisted the GCU defense in limiting opponents' shots this season, allowing only one shot on goal in the Lopes' season opener against Northern Kentucky and two shots on goal at Santa Clara.
Easley's Defensive Player of the Week honor marks the first weekly conference award given to a GCU player this season, and the first of Easley's career.
The Lopes return to action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (Phoenix time) against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
