GCU finishes 10th at CSU tournament
FINAL RESULTS
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished the Ram Masters Invitational in 10th place at Fort Collins Country Club.
GCU's final-round score of 285 (5 over par) was its best round of the tournament.
Senior Trevor Lampson led the Lopes with a 212 total (71-71-70) and finished in a tie for 18th place in the 96-player event.
Senior teammate Jake Chanen fired a final round of 68 (2 under par) and finished with a 215 total to tie for 27th place.
GCU senior Michael Salazar finished in a tie for 35th place (216) and was followed by sophomore Matthew Braley in a tie for 79th place (227) and junior Adam Veenstra in 92nd place (236).
Lopes senior T.J. Nolan played as an individual and finished in a tie for 22nd place. His second-round 66 was a tournament low for GCU.
Tournament host Colorado State won the tournament over Wyoming. CSU Fullerton, Texas-El Paso and Denver rounded out the top five.
Day 1 recap
The Lopes ended the day in 12th place in the 17-team event. GCU was in a tie for seventh place after the first 18 holes, but a tough second round saw the Lopes fall to 12th.
Nolan, playing as an individual, was the top performer of the day, finishing with a 140. His second-round 66 pushed the senior into a tie for 12th place.
Lampson shot a pair of 71s to finish with a 142 total in 24th place. Salazar completed the first rounds at 146, followed by Chanen (147), Braley (150) and Veenstra (159).
