Trevor Lampson of the Grand Canyon men's golf team earned a six-shot victory at the Sizzler Amateur on Wednesday.
Lampson, who will be a senior this fall, fired rounds of 67, 65 and 69, which was good for a 15-under-par total at Troon North in nearby Scottsdale. He was the only to break 70 in all three rounds and his second-round score of 65 was a tournament low while his first-round score of 67 tied for the second-best score. Lampson birdied 20 of the 54 holes.
The Sizzler Amateur is an established national golf championship and an open event for NCAA purposes.
GCU was well represented in the field as Jake Chanen, also to be a senior, finished in 12th place (214) while T.J. Nolan, another senior, finished in 53rd place (230).
