ORLANDO – Grand Canyon junior
Jake Chanen was selected as an individual for the NCAA regionals as part of a live announcement Wednesday on the Golf Channel.
"I'm very proud and happy for Jake and his family," GCU head coach
Mark Mueller said. "He has worked very hard and has had a great semester. I'm really looking forward to Jake having a great couple weeks of practice and seeing him compete at Regionals."
Chanen received the bid by claiming medalist honors at the WAC Championship on Sunday. He will be headed to the Pullman, Wash., regional, hosted by Washington State.
The Regional will take place May 13-15 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.
The junior standout led the Lopes in scoring average this season at 72.27. He had 20 par-or-better rounds, including four rounds in the 60s.
He owns the top round in school history with a 64, which recorded as a sophomore at the Herb Wimberly Invitational.
In non-collegiate competition, Chanen qualified for the U.S. Amateur at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., in the summer before his sophomore season. He also has won the Arizona Golf Association Stroke Play and Match Play championships.
