Chanen earns WAC award

Grand Canyon junior Jake Chanen was named WAC Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Chanen, a Phoenix native, led the Lopes to a third-place team finish by firing three sub-par rounds of 70, 69 and 68, en route to a third-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. He recorded a team-high 14 birdies Monday and Tuesday at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. Chanen had a streak of 35 holes without a bogey during the tournament.
The 20-team event was won by UCLA (841, 23 under par), followed by CSU Fullerton (848), GCU (850), Wyoming (854) and Santa Clara (856).
GCU is back in action Friday through Sunday at the El Macero Classic in California.
