TUCSON, Ariz. – Another competition day, another pair of Grand Canyon track and field records fell.
Freshman
Jorden Okyere followed up last night's school record in the discus with a school record today in the shot put. Okyere also ranks sixth in school history in the hammer throw after his performance on Friday night.
Sophomore
Alexa Hokanson copied
Paige Hildebrandt and broke her own school record in the 800-meter with the school's first outdoor sub-2 minute and 10 second finish, at 2:09.34. The sophomore's time leads the conference's next top mark by seven seconds after just the first full week of competition.
Sophomore
David Kolar ran the school's 10th fastest 100-meter dash time in 10.67 seconds to finish second overall in a field of BYU, Arizona and some UCLA runners.
Sophomore
Naudia Dawson tied her personal record with another 11.99 time in the 100.
Sophomore
Dora Filipovic had another strong day with a 55.34 time in the 400 meters. The sophomore set a personal record in the 200-meter the night prior and now ranks fourth overall in GCU history in the 400. Filipovic also ran a leg of the WAC leading 1,600-meter relay.
Senior
Daniel Flores had a strong weekend with a conference leading mark in the 1,500-meter and the second-best time in the 800, 3:53.05 and 1:53.24, respectively.
Recapping last night, on top of Okyere's discus school record, Hildebrandt broke the school record in the 1,500 and junior
Jesse Newman threw 68.34 meters in the javelin, which was good enough last year to get into the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
The Lopes will now head to the 41st Annual Aztec Invitational March 22-23 in San Diego, Calif.
