The Grand Canyon men's tennis team is scheduled to host Liberty on Tuesday at 11 a.m., weather permitting. With rain in the forecast for most of Monday night and Tuesday morning, the match may be moved to a later time on Tuesday or to Wednesday.
The Lopes are coming off a successful weekend at the Golden State Invitational at Sacramento State, where the team won the consolation bracket. The three-match event began with a 4-2 loss to Fresno State, but the Lopes responded with 4-0 shutouts over Sacramento State and New Mexico State.
The win against the Aggies was head coach
Greg Prudhomme's 250th overall win at GCU (117 as men's coach, 133 as women's coach).
The Lopes saw good performances in singles and doubles in the three matches. The top doubles pair of senior
Mathieu Rajaonah and junior
Lorenzo Fucile kept their perfect record intact at 9-0 while the No. 2 team of junior
Valentin Lang and freshman
Jakub Novak also won to clinch the doubles point against the Hornets.
In singles, Fucile and Rajaonah bounced back from a loss to the Bulldogs to take the last two matches of the weekend while senior
Lucas Grego improved his team-leading singles record to 10-1.
Liberty sits at 5-8 on the season and will be making its second western swing of the season, traveling to Seattle to play against Washington and Seattle U at the start of February. Along with playing the Lopes, the Flames will take on Arizona State and Arizona this week in search of their first road win this season.
