The Grand Canyon men's golf team begins the spring season at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational. The two-day event will be held at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
This will be the 36
th Anteater Invitational but the first time since 2016. The 10-team event will include GCU, UCI, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, Central Arkansas, Seattle U, UC Santa Barbara and Washington State.
The Lopes had three top-five finishes in the fall. GCU finished fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational and fourth at the CSUN Cullum Invite. The Lopes finished runner-up at the UTEP Pepsi-Cola Classic.
GCU has played a balanced lineup this season.
Matthew Braley leads the Lopes with a 72.53 scoring average.
Filip Lundell (72.80) is second on the squad followed by
Trevor Lampson (73.33),
Jake Chanen (73.50) and
Michael Salazar (73.73).
After this week's stop in California, the Lopes will head to Hawaii on Feb. 21-23 for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Wailua Golf Course.
