The Grand Canyon men's golf team heads to the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii, this week.
The three-day event will take place Thursday through Saturday at Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawaii.
The 20-team field carries the toughest competition that the Lopes will participate in this season. No. 14 Arizona State, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 23 BYU, No. 34 North Carolina and No. 36 UNLV are the field's highest ranked teams. Other teams joining GCU include Arizona, Duke, Virginia, Washington State, Fresno State, CSU Northridge, Hawaii, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary's, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and UTEP.
The shotgun start will include the Lopes teeing off on holes 10-12. GCU will be paired with ASU, Saint Mary's and CSUN in first-round action.
GCU is coming off a runner-up finish as the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational last week. The Lopes led the tournament after one round and finished second to eventual champion CSU Fullerton.
Senior
Filip Lundell led the Lopes with a three-roudn score of 208 (8 under par), winning medalist honors. Junior
Jake Chanen also recorded a top-10 finish for the Lopes with a 218.
At last year's John A. Burns Intercollegiate, the Lopes finished seventh. The 2018 squad was led by former Lopes standout
Vinnie Murphy in seventh place. Lundell finished in 15
th place with a 215 (1 under).
Texas A&M won the tournament last year with an 835 (29 under).
