The Grand Canyon women's basketball team hosts a pair of matchups against UC Santa Barbara and Whittier before Christmas break.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- WAC LEADERS: Senior power forward Da'jah Daniel leads the WAC in rebounds per game (9.9). Freshman point guard Jada Holland leads the WAC and ranks eighth in the nation for assists per game (6.5).
- ADJUSTMENTS: GCU converted 14 of 25 field goals in the second half of its home win Monday against UNLV. The Lopes rallied from an 11-point deficit to win by closing with two defensive stops.
- TRIFECTA: GCU is led by a trio of guards from behind the arc. Sophomore Venla Varis leads the Lopes with 17 3-pointers made and 44.7% accuracy. Freshman Tavia Rowell has converted 12 3-pointers, while Holland has made nine long balls.
SCOUTING
UC Santa Barbara has wins over WAC programs Utah Valley and Chicago State and a loss to another WAC team, CSU Bakersfield. UCSB has victories over USC and San Diego State.
The Gauchos are led by junior point guard Danae Miller with 16.1 points per game. The third-year starter also averages 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Whittier is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Poets enter the matchup with a 5-5 record and are led by senior guard Cali Cubel's 17.8 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU edged UNLV 53-51 on Monday night in GCU Arena with Holland recording 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
