The Grand Canyon men's golf team signed four student-athletes for the 2020-21 season, as announced by Lopes head coach
Mark Mueller.
"I'm very excited to add these talented guys to our team," Mueller said. "I think they have the ability to play for us right away and help replace several of the pieces we have graduating in the spring."
The Lopes announced the additions of Oscar Doran, Johannes Hounsgaard, Nicky Kling and Craig Passmore. The newcomers will be part of the Lopes' roster next fall, replacing this year's senior foursome of
Jake Chanen,
Trevor Lampson,
T.J. Nolan and
Michael Salazar.
OSCAR DORAN | Cheshire, England
Doran was named to the 2019-20 England Boys National Squad and finished the year ranked 11th in the England Boys Order of Merit. His top finishes included a fifth-place finish at the English Boys U18 (Carris Trophy) and a ninth-place finish in the 2019 Peter McEvoy Trophy. He advanced to the round of 64 at the 2019 British Boys Championship.
JOHANNES HOUNSGAARD | Chieming, Germany
Hounsgaard will have two years of eligibility at GCU. He arrives at GCU after spending his first two seasons at NAIA program Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas. Hounsgaard is the Sooner Athletic Conference defending champion after claiming medalist honors as a freshman. In addition, he recorded top three finishes at The German Futures, Austrian International Junior Championship and the Bavarian Men's Championship in 2019. He was the second-ranked junior in the State of Bavaria and No. 10 in Germany in 2017.
NICKY KLING | Paradise Valley, Arizona
The local product from Scottsdale Chaparral High School finished in Arizona high school golf's top three in all divisions for two straight years. Kling won the 2019 Junior Golf Association of Arizona Sportsmanship award and was the medalist winner at the Rivalry Cup. He fired a record-breaking round of 64 to capture the Brophy Invitational at the Raptor Course. Kling ranked in the top 100 on Junior Golf Scoreboard and won the Scottsdale Junior Championship.
CRAIG PASSMORE | Torquay, England
Named captain of his county team this season, Passmore led his team on to win the English county finals. Passmore was the Intercollegiate Tour champion and tied for seventh in the English Boys U18 (Carris Trophy). Passmore advanced to the quarterfinals of the British Boys Championship and made the cut in the English Amateur. He finsihed 2019 ranked fifth in the England Boys Order of Merit. He also was named to the eight-man 2019-2020 England Boys National Squad.
