The Grand Canyon tennis teams were well represented in the WAC Player of the Month awards. Freshman
Natasha Puehse won in singles while senior
Valentin Lang and sophomore
Jakub Novak were honored for doubles.
Puehse impressed at the ITA Southwest Regional in San Diego by advancing to the round of 16 in the 128-player singles draw. After receiving a bye in the first round, Puehse defeated Maria Tryina of San Diego 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 64. In the next round, Puehse defeated Ekaterina Repina of Cal State Northridge 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16, where she fell to No. 7 seed Daria Kuczer 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Lang and Novak picked up three wins and finished in third place in a doubles flight at the Aztec Fall Invitational, along with advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regional. Lang and Novak picked up a 6-0 win over Nick Lagaev and Jared Horwood of Arizona, along with a pair of wins over UC Irvine pairs in San Diego.
Two weeks later at Pepperdine for the ITA regional, Lang and Novak again defeated an Arizona pair. This time, they took down Alejandro Reguan and Carlos Hassey 8-4 in the round of 32. In the round of 16, the GCU pair fell to Nico Borter and David Norfeldt 8-5.
