Drack earns preseason honors

Reigning WAC Freshman of the Year lands spot on preseason All-WAC team
Reigning WAC Freshman of the Year Josh Drack landed a spot on the Preseason All-WAC team and Grand Canyon was picked to finish sixth in the conference's preseason voting announced on Wednesday. Polling was done by the WAC's 12 head coaches, who could not vote for their own team or players.
Drack came to GCU as a former Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year and made an immediate impact for the Lopes. The Chandler, Ariz. native appeared in 18 of the team's games on the season, making 14 starts. He tied for second on the team with 11 points, scoring three goals and tallying five assists. In WAC play, Drack was key in GCU's victory over Utah Valley on Oct. 29, recording a goal and an assist in the Lopes' 3-2 victory.
As a team, GCU qualified for the WAC Tournament in its first year of eligibility in 2017. The seventh-seeded Lopes fell in the opening round of the tournament to No. 2 UNLV. The conference's coaches picked GCU to finish sixth this season.
Seattle U is picked to win the conference, garnering 9 of the 11 possible first-place votes. The Redhawks' Sergio Rivas and Nathan Aune are the favorites to win Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
The Lopes wrap up their preseason training in the Los Angeles area this week before returning to Phoenix this weekend. GCU opens the season against No. 12 Wisconsin on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
