The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed the first 36 holes of the Redhawk Invitational at historic Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. The Lopes finished the first two rounds in eighth place, in the 18-team field.
In the first round,
Vinnie Murphy led the way with a 4-under par 67. The round placed Murphy in second place overall.Â
Matt McClung finished with a 74, while
Billy Comeaux finished his first round with a 76.Â
Michael Schaloum and
Jake Chanen both came in with first round 79s.
In the second round,
Michael Schaloum recorded six birdies and was under par for most of the round before finishing with a solid 71. Schaloum's 71 was matched by Comeaux.Â
Individually, Murphy leads the Lopes in 8
th place while Comeaux is in 26
th place. Schaloum is in 44
th, followed by Chanen in 60
th and McClung in 74
th.
GCU is at +20 as a team, tied with LMU and BYU. The Lopes will need to make up some ground to keep their undefeated streak going against WAC schools as Seattle U is in a tie for 4
th place at +14. Northwestern leads the tournament with a +5 total.
The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with an 8:30 am shotgun start.
