The Grand Canyon men's golf team made a move early on Friday, but settled for a fifth-place finish at the El Macero Classic, co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada.
GCU moved within four shots of the lead in the early holes but was held off by tournament winner Seattle.
The Lopes finished with their best round of the tournament, a 298 total, finishing with a three round total of 903.
Vinnie Murphy moved up to first place after an early birdie, and recorded a top-10 finish, shooting a final round 76, good for seventh place.
Billy Comeaux responded with his best round of the tournament with a 73 on Friday, finishing in the top-50 at 43
rd.
Matt McClung recorded a top-20 finish, carding a final round 74.Â
Jake Chanen finished in 28
th place, while Hayeden Webb finished in 38
th place.
Michael Schaloum played as an individual for the Lopes, finishing in 41
st place after a final round 74.
GCU is back in action in two weeks at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on April 28-30 at Longbow GC in Mesa.
