PHOENIX - Grand Canyon senior forward
Niki Jackson was named to the United Soccer Coaches' All-West Region second team the organization announced on Friday afternoon. The honor marks another in a long list of individual accolades for Jackson who finished his career ranked third in all-time goals at GCU.
As a senior, Jackson helped lead GCU to its first Division I conference tournament appearance, scoring goals in 11 matches along the way while chipping in three assists. He scored game-winning goals against nationally-ranked Evansville on Sept. 7 as well as on the road at San José State on Oct. 8. He was named a first team All-WAC performer at the end of the 2017 season.
"I wanted to put GCU on the map," Jackson
told GCULopes.com in a Nov. 7 story. "I really think I helped put us in a good spot, where we are now. To be able to make the postseason in our first year of eligibility is a huge accomplishment. It's been amazing."
In 2017, Jackson scored a team-leading 11 goals to bring his career total to 41. The Scottsdale native ranks second in Western Athletic Conference history and third in GCU history in goals scored.
Jackson's biggest recognitions came in his junior and senior seasons. He was named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award given to the top all-around student-athlete in the nation. Prior to the season starting, Jackson was on the MAC Hermann Award watch list for the nation's top player. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment came in 2016 when, after scoring 16 goals in 18 matches, he was named the 2016 WAC Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-West Region first team honors.
