TUCSON, Ariz. – It has been a productive summer for Grand Canyon men's soccer sophomore
Damian German as he has thrived playing for FC Tucson in preparation for the 2016 season with GCU. German was a part of a magical season for FC Tuscon that reached the Western Conference Final for the American semi-professional soccer club.
"I appreciated the professionalism of the staff and coaches," German said. "They treat you with honesty and respect while everyone has equal opportunity to prove themselves no matter what school or team you came from."
Throughout the summer, the sophomore from Maryvale high school made an immediate impact from the very first time he stepped onto the pitch in Tucson, scoring six goals along with five assists in 11 games in the Premier Development League (PDL). Throughout the summer, German was known for stepping up when FC Tucson was in need, like scoring the equalizing goal late in the game against the Southern California Seahorses just three matches into the league season.
German help spark an offense that finished 15-3-2 and No. 1 in the Western Conference Power Rankings at the end of the regular season. During the summer, German traveled with FC Tucson to California six times to play and also in New Mexico as well.
"What I enjoyed the most was the competitiveness and desire to win. Each player was very good so you had to fight every practice and every game to earn your spot. You become a part of a family and the fan support was amazing because they stuck with us through thick and thin."
After two goals in his freshman campaign and six goals in the summer working on his game with FC Tucson, German is poised to take on a new leadership role with the Lopes and have a sensational sophomore campaign.
