PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon men's golf team had two members recognized in the WAC men's golf postseason honors, it was announced Wednesday. Seniors
Alex Kline and
Jake Byrum was named Second Team All-WAC.
Kline earned Second Team All-WAC honors after placing in the top 10 in two tournaments this season. In his best finish of the season, Kline placed tied for fifth in the Herb Wimberly Invite on Oct. 19-20 after shooting a 2-over in three rounds. In the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Invite on April 11-12, the senior placed in a tie for eighth after shooting just a 1-over through 54 holes. During the WAC Championship on April 30-May 2, Kline climbed the leader board from 18th place to 12th in the Final Round when he recorded a 1-under 72.
Byrum earned Second Team All-WAC honors after placing tied for third in the WAC Championship. The senior was one of only four players in the tournament to shoot even-par or better after shooting an even-par through 54 holes. Byrum led the field with 38 pars, just one more than teammate Kline.
In 11 tournaments, the seniors led GCU to five top-six place finishes this season, including two second place finishes at the Herb Wimberly Invite and OGIO UC Santa Barbara Invitational. The pair also helped the Lopes to place unofficially in third at the WAC Championship. Due to the Division I transition, Grand Canyon was unable to score as team.
