PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon men's soccer team continues to add to its 2016 roster as they have signed Stephen Gonzales. This marks the seventh member to GCU's Class of 2016 as Gonzales is a midfielder from Red Oak, Texas.
"We are happy with the addition of Stephen to our program," head coach
Schellas Hyndman said. "We have been working on this addition for a while and we are thrilled that the process ended with Stephen at GCU."
Gonzales is one of three GCU signees that come from the FC Dallas Academy joining Austin Davis and Hector Montalvo. Gonzales was a part of a FC Dallas team that achieved a lot of success winning the 2015 Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI and also were crowned USYS Region III champion.
"He has been leader of one of the best club teams in the country," Hyndman said. "Stephen has been a huge part of FC Dallas' success and he will bring that winning mentality to Grand Canyon."
Gonzales is a versatile player that can play in the midfield as well as centerback. Gonzales, who is the seventh member of the Class of 2016, has the ability to make players around him better. Gonzales attended Life High School Waxachie where he was Most Valuable Player for the 2015-16 National league, leading his team to three straight State Cup titles.
