The Grand Canyon women's soccer team will continue Western Athletic Conference play this weekend in a pair of road matches as they meet UMKC on Friday, Oct. 14 and face Chicago State on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Lopes will look to carry momentum from last week's 2-1 double overtime victory over Utah Valley into their matches against the Roos and Cougars.Â

GCU Notables
- GCU split its opening weekend of WAC play. The Lopes picked up their first conference win on Sunday when they defeated Utah Valley in a 2-1 double overtime thriller. The Lopes fell to Seattle U, in a 1-0 decision on Friday.
- The Lopes clinched the victory over the Wolverines off a Madison Cox header goal from McKenzie Cook's free kick from 20 yards out.
- In Seattle, the Lopes battled with the Redhawks for 83 minutes before giving up a goal in the 84th minute in a 1-0Â heartbreaking loss.
- Milla Benedetti continues to lead the team with five goals. Cox picked up her third goal against Utah Valley and her first game winning goal of the season.
- GCU extended their home record to 4-2.
- The Lopes are now 5-8-0 on the season and 1-1 in WAC play.Â
Scouting UMKC
- UMKC is currently 4-7-3 this season and is 1-0-1Â in WAC play.
- The Roos downed UTRGV in a 2-1 decision in double overtime. They continued their winning ways as they held New Mexico State to a draw.Â
- UMKC not only went to extra time in both matches, but the Roos earned points twice in two double overtime matches.
- Forward Kelsey Mothershead leads the Roos with a team-high six goals on the season.Â
Scouting Chicago State
- Chicago State is currently 1-11-0Â this season. The Cougars have yet to pick up a WAC win.
- The Cougars fell to New Mexico State in a 2-1 outcome and were downed by UTRGV 5-1 last weekend.
- Â Midfielder Mariela Alba leads CSUÂ with seven points and three goals on the year.
