EL PASO, Texas – Grand Canyon and UTEP battled windy and rainy conditions for a 0-0 draw to conclude each team's seasons on Friday night.
GCU finishes the season at 8-6-5 on the year, the sixth-consecutive winning or .500 season for Head Coach
Chris Cissell and the program.
Amanda Adams had a 22nd minute opportunity on net before UTEP's keeper made a sliding save. A 25th minute
Ellie Johannes header and free kick earned by
Mai-Helen Nguyen Todnem just outside of the box in the 40th minute follows, but to no avail.
Despite an array of offensive opportunities, the Lopes failed to score in the road match, managing zero goals in the five conference road games this season.
The Lopes were 4-0-1 at home in Mountain West action and 0-4-1 on the road.
The bright spot of the evening and season was the defense.
Grand Canyon just allowed 0.79 goals a match, a program-record breaking the 2024 GCU team that allowed 0.84.
Emma Knack led the way in goal with her fourth shutout of the season and the team's sixth.
"I am proud of the way our defense showed up each game this season," said Cissell. "To have the best statistical season in our program's thirty years is very impressive."
The Lopes will not partake in next week's MW Championships at GCU Stadium to determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Just 4 of the 11 teams in the conference made the field.
Important dates and time periods ahead for GCU women's soccer include: Signing Day on November 11, the transfer portal in late November through December and the spring season kicking off in January.
