"It's definitely nice to be on our home court for the first time in front of our own crowd." Werle noted. "We're talking a lot about what a show looks like, and a show looks like winning in three. We want to continue to get great support because that is what we thrive on."
Â
GCU received excellent production from their starters at the beginning of the first two sets. The Lopes were led by middle hitter Ashton King who recorded 9 kills on 14 attempts for a .571 attack percentage. Gerrard Lipscombe also knocked down 7 kills and led the team with 6 digs.
Â
Fourteen Grand Canyon players saw action throughout the match. Werle noted that this was important as the Lopes will play three games this weekend.
Â
"Going into a three-match weekend, we always want to take care of business as soon as possible," Werle said. "Our starters did a good job of setting the tone early and pulling out some good leads so we could rest some bodies."
Â
Grand Canyon will play two games at Antelope Gymnasium on Saturday, January 16. The Lopes will face the Hawks again at 11 a.m. in the first game and will take UC Merced at 7 p.m. for the nightcap.
