The Grand Canyon wrestling team have announced their 2015-16 schedule that features some prominent programs GCU will face. The Antelopes will host five matches this season and every match will be held in the GCU Arena.
Â
"I am excited about this year's young team, as we face five top 25 teams," head coach Jon Sioredas said. "We will know exactly where we stand and where we are going with such a young group." Â
Â
Grand Canyon will travel all across the country starting off with a trip to North Carolina and Minnesota to start the season in early November. After a matchup against Campbell University, the Lopes will head off to Minneapolis, Minn. for three matches against the University of Minnesota, the University of Virginia and South Dakota State University. The Lopes away schedule features the highly touted Iowa Hawkeyes who finished last season as the No. 2 team in the country.
Â
"We want to go up against the best wrestlers in the country," Sioredas said. "Iowa is historically one of the best schools in Division I and with the addition of traveling to Minnesota, it will be a great test for us to see where we stand as a team."
Â
Grand Canyon will show off their talents this season for the first time in front of GCU fans on Nov. 12 against Northern Colorado. Throughout the season, GCU will host Northern Illinois, Lock Haven, Embry-Riddle and North Dakota State.Â
Â
"We will have all of our home matches in the GCU Arena, which will provide a great atmosphere for our young team to compete in," Sioredas said. "This a chance for us to create a home court advantage at GCU Arena so we will make sure that it is fan friendly with the student body involved."
